On March 24, 2023, the police received a call from a store clerk reporting a disturbance caused by a man who had stolen a pack of cigarettes. The clerk inquired about the man's ID, to which he gestured that he had it. Subsequently, she handed over the cigarettes, but he immediately grabbed the pack and refused to show his ID or pay for the item. Upon the police's arrival, the situation escalated due to the man's hostile demeanor, exacerbating the initial petty theft incident. The man became extremely verbally confrontational and displayed aggressive behavior towards the clerk, allegedly flicking a cigarette at her. It is startling how a minor altercation over a pack of cigarettes escalated into a case of aggravated battery
