On August 22, 2023, at 1757 hours, the officer received a dispatch about a vehicle blocking traffic on northbound Route 41. Upon arrival at 1804 hours, the officer found a Gray Chevrolet Silverado with the driver, Arturo Alaniz Morales, slumped over the steering wheel. Alaniz initially denied sleeping but displayed signs of confusion, mumbling, and slurred speech.
The officer noted Alaniz's bloodshot and glassy eyes after he removed his sunglasses. Alaniz couldn't find his driver's license and wrote his name incorrectly on a notepad. Alaniz denied drinking or sleeping but later admitted to having a beer. He agreed to perform field sobriety tests, which he failed. A preliminary breath test showed a BrAC of .151, and Alaniz later admitted to having two beers.
Alaniz was arrested for DUI, handcuffed, and searched with no contraband found. His vehicle contained an open Modelo beer can and a receipt from Binny's Beverage Depot with alcohol purchases. Alaniz was taken to the Lake Forest PSB lockup, where he agreed to provide a breath sample with a BrAC of .133. He was read his Miranda rights and issued citations.
Alaniz's vehicle was towed, and he was released on a personal recognizance bond with a court date on 9/22/23 at 0900 hours at the Lake County Courthouse.
