北 김여정 공식서열 상승 가능성...호명 순서 당겨져
The latest reports aired by North Korea's state media suggest that the sister of the regime's leader, Kim Yo-jong, may have been promoted to a higher position.
She was demoted last year, but a new status is implied by where she's positioned among other members of the Politburo.
Kim Dami has the details.
Kim Yo-jong, the sister of North Korean leader, is believed to have been promoted to a higher position.
In Saturday's report on a memorial event for the regime's late former leader Kim Jong-il held on Friday, the North's state media listed Kim Yo-jong between eight sitting members of the Politburo and other alternate members.
Kim came before the alternate members, which suggests she may have either named a Politburo member OR an alternate member.
Also in the footage of the ceremony aired on Friday, Kim was spotted standing next to three Politburo members, including Kim Yong-chol.
Pyeongyang is yet to report on or confirm Kim's possible promotion, however.
But considering that the North does typically publicize political reshuffles through Politburo meetings or other key party events, attention will now be on the upcoming plenary meeting of the regime's legislature set for the end of this month.
Kim Yo-jong had previously been an alternate member of the Politburo, but was demoted at a party congress in January.
As a key advisor to her brother, Kim has become one of the regime's most influential political figures, overseeing inter-Korean affairs as well as Pyeongyang-Washington relations.
In September, she did manage to become a member of the State Affairs Commission and vice department director of the Workers' Party, which Seoul's chief intelligence agency said would be appropriate to her status.
