Independent candidates will no longer be required to collect 15% signatures to contest next year's elections. Instead, one thousand signatures will be sufficient.
The Electoral Amendment Act, as it stands, for the most part, will guide how independent candidates will contest the 2024 elections. The independents failed to convince the apex court that the amendments were irrational, unconstitutional and invalid on most grounds, except the 15% quota.
