NOTE: New Channel Name...The Lake Erie Woodturner
Check out my new website at: https://www.lakeeriewoodturner.com/
In this video I share how I turn off a tenon from a bowl or vessel I just turned. We will use some of the methods I have learned along with some of the various jam chucks I have made. Just a reminder everything you see here is probably going to be a rehash of ideas and projects I have learned from YouTube videos and watching more experienced turners than I .
In the previous video which will be linked in the video I show you how I prepare to turn off and different jam chucks used to turned off the Large Ambrosia Maple Bowl tenon I made and gifted to my grandson last month.
• Woodturning this LARGE Twice turned A...
This large hunk of ambrosia maple is twice turned and finished however due to my (lack of) organizing skills I can not find the video for the first turning.
Since retiring in 2021 and building my woodshop I have had more time to do the things I really enjoy!! Woodturning of all kinds--especially segmented woodturning--are my favorite. More recently though I have had an abundance of green wood that I have to process and must turn before I lose it to the bugs and spalt. Now that it has cooled down a little in the shop I can spend more time in the shop making shavings and sawdust! Come along for the journey of a retired beginning woodturner. I'd love to have the company!
In this project I am turning probably the largest turning to date a large ambrosia maple chunk that came from a HUGE slab my grandson dropped off one day. And when I say dropped---I mean DROPPED! It was split and rounded, initially rounded and turned on the lathe this summer and set in a bag with shavings to dry slowly. I was cleaning up a little and took it out of the bag and let it sit in the shop for a few more weeks and then decided to finish turning this MONSTER!!
Join me for the turn of this beautiful Ambrosia Maple Ice Cream Bowl.
Final dimensions 12" x 7" with fairly consistent 1/2" walls (for me anyways).
Love getting the shavings a flying!!!
