From Tuesday terminally ill people in New South Wales will be eligible for voluntary assisted dying.
Qualifying patients must be at least 18 and diagnosed with an advanced or progressive illness.
They also must have a life expectancy of six months or less, or 12 months for neurodegenerative diseases.
The person will first receive an assessment from their doctor, before consulting with a second physician, followed by a written declaration, and a final request.
Victoria was the first state to introduce the laws which became operational in June 2019.
