Education in rural India always has been in a precarious state, but with rising school enrolments things were looking better≥ However the ASER 2023 Survey - spanning 26 states and touching close to 35,000 students - has a grim story to tell.
Indian rural youth in the 14 to 18 age bracket .... the same youth who will become the backbone of the labour class - is struggling to even do class 2 level academics and even the most basic of life calculations. If India has to capitalise on its 'demographic dividend' - then there is no getting around solving this problem of rural education ..... here's why
