On Sunday 14th, a volcano erupted on Iceland's Reykjanes Peninsula, and posed an immediate threat to a nearby fishing town, Grindavik, that had been evacuated on Saturday over fears of an eruption.
Though there are no casualties reported yet as the town was evacuated on Saturday amidst fears of volcanic activity, the lava flow has destroyed several houses.
This is the second volcanic eruption on the Reykjanes peninsula in less than a month and the fifth since 2021, suggesting we are in a very active active cycle which volcanologists are calling the Reykjanes Fires.
