Tasmanians are waking up to their very own Queen after Hobart-born Mary Donaldson ascended the Danish throne alongside her husband, King Frederik X.
The two met in a Sydney bar during the 2000 Olympics, and then-Prince Frederik simply introduced himself as ‘Fred’, which led to the two hitting it off.
Residents of the island state are excited to hear the news of a new Tasmanian-born Queen in Denmark.
The ascension of King Frederik and Queen Mary was sealed with a kiss on the balcony of Christiansborg Palace on Sunday night.
It comes after Queen Margarethe abdicated the throne on New Year’s Eve.
