US government officials have claimed that Hamas are using some hospitals in the Gaza Strip and tunnels underneath them to hide and support their military operations, and to hold Israeli hostages.
The intelligence from the White House’s national security council spokesperson, John Kirby, comes amid an outcry for the plight of several hospitals in the strip that risk "becoming a cemetery," as bodies pile up in the corridors
Mr Kirby said the US does "not support striking a hospital from the air," and President Joe Biden has previously called from hospitals to be protected.
Mr Kirby added the US also does not want to see “a firefight in a hospital where innocent people, helpless people, sick people are simply trying to get the medical care that they deserve.”
