Kim Yo-jong, the North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s only sister is drawing attention as she stood right in the front at a welcoming ceremony for Chinese President Xi Jinping’s recent visit to Pyongyang. Kim, who was born as the daughter of Kim Jong-il and Ko Yong-hui in 1988, is said to have a close relationship with her brother Kim Jong-un, due to shared isolated years while studying together in Switzerland from 1996 to 2000. Seoul’s National Intelligence Service confirmed that she now seems to be on the same level as the likes of Choe Ryong-hae, who firmly holds onto his role as the de facto No. 2 man in the country. On the other hand, Hyon Song-wol, head of the North’s Samjiyon Orchestra and the Moranbong Band, seemed to take over Kim’s previous role in protocol. Therefore, some even say that Kim Yo-jong and Hyon Song-wol are the most powerful women in North Korea today.
