What is a Damascus knife? - Damascus sword or Damascus blade is about 900 years ago, when the Crusaders in Europe invaded the Islamic sphere cultural, the Muslim army pierced the ears of the crusaders' steel armor with Damascus swords and cut down the thick and rugged steel swords of the Crusaders at once. It is a word that refers to a legendary sword or sword that was so light and thin that the expeditionary force was surprised during the battle and literally made the crusaders tremble in fear and lost the war.
Crusades in Europe ultimately failed. The Damascus sword of Islam succeeded in stopping the invasion of the Christian world in Europe. So the reputation of Damascus knives is getting higher and higher all over the world.
3. Origin of Damascus knives - Originally, Damascus knives originated in India about 1700 years ago. Its original material is 'wootz steel', which is made by mixing carbon-rich iron with general soft iron. However, since Damascus, the capital of Syria, was a trading city and was exported to many other countries around the city, the legendary sword was widely called the 'Damascus knife'.
4. Manufacturing method of Damascus knives - The knives must be made in a layered structure by mixing steel with many (iron carbide Fe3C) grains of very high hardness and soft iron with low carbon carbide content. This is possible only after a lot of experience in making Damascus knives for a long time. The blade part of the knife is made to distribute a large amount of carbon, and the back of the knife is made to distribute a small amount of carbon. Only then can Damascus knives be reborn as light, soft, and steel-cutting knives.
